The Selman- an oasis in Marrakech

Back home in Germany I am dreaming of my beautiful stay at the Selman in Marrakech. The quiet, the calm, the food, the atmosphere, the people…

The Selman is situated about 10 minutes away from the souks and famous Djemaa el Fna, offering a luxury escape at it’s best. It’s a family owned 5star hotel with the whole comfort of an high end resort. An oasis in the city of Marrakech.

Architecture At It’s Best

Architect and interior designer, Jacques Garcia, known for his brilliant work at La Mamounia, has created an exceptional place. The hotel is rather simple from the outside, but very impressive from the inside. The hotel’s interior is a perfect mixture of Second Empire luxury with beautiful chaises longues and grand chandeliers and tricky Arabian artistry, including traditional moroccan plasterwork and oriental tracery. Colours are mainly held in deep purples, dark wood and a lot of gold. The long corridors are decorated with paintings of the beautiful Arabian horses that belong to the owner’s family. The huge patio offers a wonderful view onto the awesome 80m swimming pool with it’s perfectly straight palm trees and exotic plants.

Private, Intimate, Quiet

It felt as though I was staying at my very own private resort. It was so quiet and peaceful. If you don’t want to see anybody, you don’t see anybody. There are cabanas for every guest and we pretty much had the whole pool area to ourselves. The Selman offers poolside cocktails and dining. The staff regulary provided us with fresh cool water and fruit free of charge.

Rooms As Big As Dance Halls

We booked a beautiful prestige double room. It was super spacious (70m2) with a large terrace and a fantastic view onto the swimming pool and the pretty garden. Designer and high end furnishings meet persian rugs, grand chandeliers and pretty pink colours.

The luxiourous in-house spa is the first Moroccan to offer various chenot- endorsed treatments, to transform body mind and soul. It also includes a traditional hammam, a heated pool, a hair and beauty salon and a modern fitness center.

Selman Marrakech is a family-owned business. Owner Abdellam Bennati Smires shows his love and passion for Arabian Thoroughbred horses in every little corner of the hotel. The Selman manages to combine an endless passion for horses and an expert eye for the hospitality industry. The stables boast 16 stalls, a beautiful garden for events and several outdoor paddocks.

There are various restaurants and bars throughout the hotel, serving Moroccan, Asian, Mediterranean and international cuisine. Don’t forget to try a traditional and super delicious tagine. On Sundays the Selman features a delicious brunch in their beautiful pavilion. Enjoy an extravagant buffet while watching a magical horse show in the outside garden.

Thank you Selman for a fantastic stay and 5star service all the way!
